Make Money Online Selling Digital Products
Several months ago, I told you about my small success in making money online with affiliate marketing. Since then, I have been working harder than ever to continue learning and explore other methods of internet marketing.
I did fairly well in the months after I showed you the checks I received from NeverblueAds and COPEAC, but I didn’t do as well as I would have liked. This was mostly due to a couple of my profitable campaigns being deactivated, and the fact that I stopped doing PPC on some high-payout campaigns.
I recently stumbled onto a new opportunity and have fully taken advantage of it to make even more money in a short amount of time. What is it? Selling digital products.
Since I was able to get started selling digital products with only a couple days worth of hard work, I thought I would share my methods with you. The beauty of this process that once you get everything in place for your first product, selling other products becomes really simple. I can crank out site to sell a different digital product in only a day, since I know how to go about it.
Here’s how you go about selling your own digital product online:
Find a Good Product With Resale Rights
You are looking for a product that people will actually WANT to buy. There are thousands of products online from software, website scripts, templates, graphics; you name it. Start by Googling a generic category like “website scripts” (in quotes) and “resell rights” and see what you come up with. Look through the results and identify the different products available to you and create a list. Make sure you note the price and website address.
You are only looking for products that come with master resale rights. Master resale rights allow you to sell the product as if it were your own. You are free to charge any price you want and can change the branding to make it your own. i.e: change the website links and company name, etc. I am not talking about affiliate programs here. You will actually own the product and the right to sell it. When someone buys your product, you get all the money (less fees), are responsible for support, and deliver the product yourself.
Don’t bother to try selling eBooks unless you can get a package that contains several (more than ten) eBooks for a reasonable price. eBooks are a tough market to break into. There are many other products available with much lower barriers to entry, and will be more profitable in the long run.
Don’t stop researching until you have 10-20 (or more) different products in your list. You are trying to find the most profitable product out of the bunch or the product with the most potential. Go through your product list and ask yourself these questions for each product:
- Would I buy this product?
- Why would I want to buy this product?
These questions are not about money. Forget the price and think about the value of the product to your customer. Is this something they want or need? Is this something you want or need?
Give each product a rating from 1 to 10, based on your answers to these questions. Once you have gone through all the products in your list, pick the top 5 products with your best rating.
Choose A Product
At this point you should have 5 or so products that you think have merit. It’s time for a little more research in order to pick the best product. Google each product by name, and note the following:
- How many other websites are selling this product?
- What are people saying about this product? This is important! Try hard to find honest reviews of the product and immediately scratch it off your list of there are tons of bad reviews. People talk more about bad products than good, but you should be able to find product reviews fairly easily.
- How much demand is there for this product? Are there lots of people asking where they can find this product? How many advertisers are there in Google, Yahoo, and MSN for this product?
- What are my competitors selling this product for? You need to identify the high and low price points. If someone is selling this product for significantly less than the average price, then scratch it off your list. You don’t want to compete in the bargain basement.
- Is there anything I can do better than my competitors? Can you make a better offer or position this product in a different way to beat the competition?
Once you finish this exercise, you should have only one or two products left. Now it’s time to choose the best one. Consider this:
- Which product is going to make me the most money? Higher average selling prices are better. Ideally, you want a product that sells in the $20-$50 range.
- How much will it cost me to buy the resale rights to this product? Try and find the lowest price for this product with master resale rights. Just be careful not to miss out on any free products. Some products with resale rights come with other stuff you can sell or giveaway as “free gifts”, but you might have to pay a little more.
- How many do I have to sell to make my money back? Divide the average sale price of this product by the cost of the resale rights package. You’re looking for a product that will pay for itself quickly with fewer sales so you can be profitable much more quickly. If you can make five or less sales to cover the cost of the resale rights package, you are doing well. You also have to consider some of the other costs as well, but we’ll get to that.
At this point, you should have a clear winner. Go ahead and buy the product. Make sure you bookmark the page you buy it from so you can refer back to it later.
Take some time to get to know your product. Go through everything and see if you have any questions. Ask the person you bought the package from to clarify anything you don’t understand.
Buy A Domain And Create a Website
Now that you know much more about your product, you can start thinking of a domain name to sell your product from. Identify keywords related to your product, including the product name and synonyms that describe your product. Think outside the box on this, because you want a domain name that specifically represents your product when your potential customers sees your website address.
You can use a free service like Nameboy to help you find domain names using combinations of keywords. Once you’ve decided on a domain name, buy it from GoDaddy.
Build a website to sell your product from. Take a look at how your competitors are selling the product and try to do a better job. Remember: Sell the sizzle, not the steak. You are selling benefits, not features. Think about what makes your customer tick and tell them how your product will help them solve a problem, make more money, or change their life.
Setup Payment Processing
Paypal is the easiest payment processor to use, hands down. They have several tools that will allow you to use either a shopping cart or buy now buttons on your website. All you have to do is follow the simple wizards and PayPal will generate the HTML code for you. Copy and Paste, and you’re done.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to automate the delivery of your product. Create a thank you page that has a link to your product’s downloadable file. Make sure you thank your customer for their purchase too.
If you are using the PayPal buy now button, there’s an option to have your customer redirected to your thank you page when they complete the sale. If you setup your delivery this way, your customer get instant access to download the product they just purchased. This saves you from having to deliver the product yourself.
I like this method because it’s simple and does not tie me to the computer. I don’t have to worry about a customer getting mad because they didn’t receive the product they just bought while I was out of town. The only downside to this method is that the URL to the thank you page can be distributed to other people and they can download your product without paying.
You can’t completely eliminate piracy, but you can do a couple of things to prevent it:
- Use the encryption option when you create your PayPal buy now button. This keeps people from seeing the thank you page URL in the HTML source of your pages.
- Change the name of your thank you page regularly. I do this at least once a week, just to make sure no one can download my products for free. Make sure you change the thank you page URL in your buy now buttons too.
Market Your Product
Find forums, blogs, and websites where your customer would hang out. Post relevant comments in forums and blogs and include a link to your site in your signature. Don’t spam; it’s just bad business.
You should also consider PPC advertising. It’s a great way to get targeted traffic to your site instantly and to put your product into the hands of the people who are looking for it.
Another advertising method I’ve been using recently is ScratchBack. ScratchBack allows you to “tip” a blogger and in return, you get a link back to your site. There are tons of blogs that display the “TopSpots” widget and most tips cost only a buck or two. I’ve sold several copies of my own products from links on other blogs. It works!
Want To Shortcut The Process?
If you want to get started today, check out CSS Landing Pages. You can buy the master resale rights for only $37 and you get 136 landing page templates, 112 bonus marketing images, plus the Landing Page Success Guide ebook. You’ll have rights to sell all three products either individually or as a package.
If you sell this package for $19 or more, you can make your money back in as little as 2 or three sales. Not too shabby.
Good luck! Enjoy your new found wealth!
Oi. thanks for the tips there man. i will try this one
Truly inspiring. I hope this prospers. Thanks for the tips.
those IT review sites are already doing this
for each product they review, they will link back to a seller to make profit out of it
Yeah true Love Calculator those IT review sites are already doing this. Whatever thank for the tips.
I’m not talking about a review site or anything. This is all about a site dedicated to selling your own product and keeping all the dough.
You could have other people write reviews about your product and cash in big time.
Just to give you a little taste, I have three product sites that have earned well over $600 in the last three weeks.
When someone buys one of my products, the money goes straight into my PayPal account and my automated process delivers the download.
Once you have the sites setup, you don’t have to do any other work besides improving the site to generate more sales.
good point, thanks for your tips.
Thanks for the tip. I do this and it has worked out great for me!
Thanks for the great tips! competition in online business today is very tight.
Digital is our future. So,selling digital goods is great job.
Great advices..
I always think it is better to market your own product. There are so many products out there that are absolute junk! If you have Camtasia studio your possible product line is huge. Many people that surf blogs are new and like having visual instruction to help them move along. The are also services like Kunaki that will create the dvd for you package it and ship it for about 1.70.
With the fast development of the world wide internet today, lots of online business comes up everyday. Selling digital products could be a good start. As long as you know to deal with your customers, I guess you will surely make money.
Thanks for the great tips! i will try them
Nice post with some great money making tips. Im jealous looking at those large checks. Oh, and nice layout
best of the best.
Hi Donovan
This is the 1st visit to your site. Thank you for sharing so generously these tips. Great ideas! I would take this on and see how far i can go.
Look forward to more of your working tips.
cheers,
Very good written post. Thanks for the tips.
For those individuals willing to do a little leg work, and think outside the box there are lots of opportunities like this still on the web. I would avoid e-books as well, but there are some good products out there.
This is great!. To sell digital products with master resale rights its good for making profits. I surely will try this and even spread it in my blog. Thanks a lot for the link.
Great advice. This has been my future goal in blogging…this post may have boosted my motivation. Thanks.
good stuff-I followed your advice and went and did some browsing and one of the sites I found for Master resale rights was Resale Enterprises-looks good-I’m excited to get started!
Great Ideas. Thanks!
Nice and big post.Good to read.Thanks.
This is really inspiring. Thanks a lot for the post.
Thanks for sharing this great information to us. I think this kind of business, could help to make more money.
This is really a great and detail post. However, I usually use the following steps to build my online business:
1. Choose the market I want to target first. This market have to be both profitable and I’m passionate about.
2. Seek for products that can sell and get ready some advertising program.
3. Buy domain, web hosting service, webmasters’ tools to setup a blog.
4. Post what my target market is interested.
5. Recommend them the products that I sell (usually digital) and setup the ads in my blog.
6. Pour in traffic and blog everyday.
I use the same for my law of attraction blog too. I might be using different methods but no doubt the way you post is the easiest way to start an online business. It’s more like a foundation for newbies. Once the get started, they are free to use many ways to expand it!
Thanks for the great post. Its a valuable one for all of us.
nice idea. do you have any thoughts on how to develop digital products and what people would be willing to buy?
Ultimately the concern is piracy for anything digital. I have used the landing page templates on a clients site. They are solid.
Thanks for the great tips. Just hope I can make some money, too!
This is the best way to sell of your digital products. As these products are in great demand these days therefore the bid value for these products will also be very high.
I am thinking about expanding into selling digital products. Thanks for your ideas. I have heard clickbank is a decent payment processor, any ideas?
I can just thank you for the information. This is cool.Thanks.
I must appreciate that you have very well put up the article
Congratulations for that
Keep it up
Great article, although I tend to prefer to sell tangible items. The biggest buyers on the web are the least web-savvy imo.
This is great!. To sell digital products with master resale rights its good for making profits. I surely will try this and even spread it in my blog. Thanks a lot for the link.
I like to involve myself in a challenging profanations like this. Its seems to be very special for me.
I want to sell my digital colour phone in it.
Thanks for the tips. I am interested in this and will begin to try it out.
Nice tips there - how much money have you made from this kind of thing? Surely the entire market is saturated?
Anyhow - nice post
never thought of that before..thank you for sharing..for sure I will try it..hope it works
Great Tips - do you have to support the downloads? Say you sell a script - who does the support? Guy who wrote the script or yourself?
Thats great you have managed to make money through the affiliate programs. I have tried, well by tried I mean posted affiliate links..I could have worked at it more, its not easy money though, thats for sure.
You just have to make sure you find a product that is not over-saturated in the market. You can find yourself loosing a lot of money in an overcrowded and highly competitive market such as digital products and ebooks.

I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog.
Thanks for the information. This is one thing everyone has to try. Very generous of you to offer such detailed information.
I do very well in ppc and have seen nothing from affiliates, though I think I am just not drawing the readers the right way to get anything from the affiliate marketing.
I think I’m gonna just write and ebook and sell some tshirts, LOL
I have to admit that I am just now beginning to look into affiliate marketing and other alternatives to adsense. I guess once I finally figured out a method for making niche sites I didn’t want to bother trying to figure out other forms of monetization. As I’ve been reading, though, it looks like I’m missing out. Thanks for the info.
thx very much for your tips
it help me a lot!
thanks!
It’s always more profitable to sell your own product and cut out the middle man.
Truly inspiring. I hope this prospers. Thanks for the tips
Yeah we can sell lots of digital items like laptops, digital cameras and mp3 players and lots of stuff like that. But have to keep competitive prices to attract more customers.
well the most difficult thing in affiliate is driving traffic and convert.
Great post with some great tips! Thanks.
such a details tips you give us there! thanks for it man. I must improve my selling online skills to earn more. Thanks for the tips!
nice insights and some damn good points.
Like others have mentioned, the key is to find your niche. Things are getting overly saturated now, which makes it harder to break in. Great tips, though, thanks!
This is very interesting! I have enjoyed reading this very insightful post. Very engaging and informative. Thanks for sharing.
selling didgital products online means more moolah. and it really adds that zing thing to ur site.
thats a great idea. not only will it make fatter bucks but also garner a fair amount of traffic.
I want to suggest this to my friend, seeing as how all he does is sit at home doing nothing all day.
very useful tips..i hope this makes good success for me
Hi,
Thanks for the tips. I always need such motivation to start something. If I can just start and not worry about making mistakes. Thanks.
my relatives would have loved this lets just all chill now (:
I’ve never used Copeac before, I’d be interested to hear more about them.
Awesome rundown on how to sell digital products!
I might just use these tips at my baccarat forum
I’ve heard of good things about copeac, especially if you refer people.. 2% for life you get I believe…
Thanks for the info., its worth a try
Excellent information, very useful, thank you.
A lot of great info. Thanks. Always been something I wanted to know more about. Thanks Again!
That seems to be a great game plan.
I knew someone who resold templates and got a commission. These were professionally designed and looked great, but you had to either input all the info yourself or pay the creating company a whole lot to customize it for you.
Graphics would be tough to resell considering plenty of people would just take it and hope you never find out about it.
Truly inspiring. I hope this prospers. Thanks for the tips.
I’m going to suggest this to some friends, as they actually are trying to get into e-commerce. Thanks for the info.
selling digital products makes more sense in the long run coz it will not only attract a niche audience but also help you with qualitative traffic.
This is actually really interesting idea. With proper optimisation and marketing(and finding proper niche of course which seems to be the hardest part) and some money spend to buy products this could turn in nice money.
Nice tips. I’ve learned my lesson trying to sell ebooks. A waste of time
Nice tips! I’ve learned my lesson selling ebooks. Not worth it.
Ebooks are for noobs mostly. I mean, there are some you can learn a lot from, but all those things you can find for free if you try a bit.
Selling digital products could be a good start. As long as you know to deal with your customers, I guess you will surely make money.
Hi, I just stopped by to let you know I added your blog to my “do follow” list. Thanks.
Some excellent advice here. Thanks.
Thanks for the information, Will be bookmarked!
PS, Great blog!
You are sharing a great tips. Preparation work is very important to success
Thanks for all this info this nice post on selling digital goods and ebooks. What better product could you sell than something that costs you nothing and you sell it for something!
Well written article and very informative. Great info and tips. Thanx.
There is some really good advice here. I totally need to do it when I get some time.
Thats a pretty good gameplan for an affiliate business. If one was to master seo along with this, he could make some serious money $$$
There are so many products out there that are absolute junk! If you have Camtasia studio your possible product line is huge. Many people that surf blogs are new and like having visual instruction to help them move along.
Good point…I think though that having good quality products to market is very important..which requires you getting to know the products intimately, or creating your own, which can be very time consuming.
Nice post good info and comprehensive. I am a new blogger so this is very useful tips for me. Thanks for the tips. I appreciate all the useful information you so kindly share. I will be sure to check this out.
wow a huge collection of tips..took me so much time to read them all..
BTW i am still confused with terms “MRR” and “RR” could u point out difference between them
Thanks for the tips. I think ‘first’ results on google for ‘website scripts” “resell rights” might be already taken by other people visiting your website. My concern is if I become master reseller the support requests come to me. Isn’t being an affiliate better and more profitable?
WIth this kind of ‘resell’ you have to add some ‘value’ to the product otherwise no-one is going to buy it, they can simply go to the main source. Can’t they?
The PPC approach you mentioned is good and it might get you some buyers directly buying the product but this is not a ‘long term’ thing. You will have to keep buying rights for more and more new products.
Great tip! I’m going to look into it.. Thanks so much!
What a advice. Thanks for your tips.
what would my relatives think of it? Heck yeah!
Great tips. I have been also trying this for the last few months.
Too bad most people won’t do this. It really is a viable way to earn money. And we all need more of that.
-Sammy
thanks for these great ideas. It seems like a great way to earn some extra money.
An alternative to resell rights would be products with private label right. However, as with resell rights you still need to be careful as all are not created equal.
Fantastic write up you have there. I’m just dtarting in the digital products world, your advice will come in handy.
Thanks for the post on making money online. Yes, digital products are a good thing indeed!
To me every problem come opportunity. As an Internet marketer, we need to stay positive and take the problem like a bread that we can eat to make us strong. You see the opportunity we have now is to find a solution to this problem and we could create a product that share with people how to solve this problem.
It seems like a great way to earn some extra money.
People are in such a rush to make money online that they neglect to take appropriate steps to secure their products. Your security tips are “spot on” - “encrypting your PayPal link” and “frequently changing the name of your thank you page”.
It’s amazing how easily people can gain free access to online digital products, which is why a seller needs to take appropriate steps to sell online products securely. Thanks for the post!

oh man! this is really great. I want to try it.
Hello dude, thanks for the info. But do you think it is better idea to monetize websites by selling digital products instead of using adsense. Please guide me about this.
Thanks for your advice, I’m going to use it.
There are some great products out there that with a little creative marketing you can do really well for yourself on the internet.
Im doing very well in ppc and have seen nothing from affiliates. Maybe i need to explore more on the ways to do it.
I would love to follow your “make money online” advise here. Very comprehensive and easy-to-follow procedures. Few friends I know have made well in internet/affiliate marketing.
I love the internet and the availability there is on it to make money. Thanks for some great tips here! If I have learned anything it is that you can never learn enough.
Selling digital stuff always a hit in the internet. Great idea on that. Im doing some ppc and some internet sales and so far everything works just fine.
Neverblue is petty good. 99.99 percent of Ebooks are garbage.
I set up a e-book site using a photo buy and download software called Ktools. It works great I can upload the zipped book and when the pay the automatically gives them the download. I do nothing but add product and collect the money.
bad that ebay do not allow selling digital products anymore
Nice but it takes long time.
Thank you for the information. Your Site is very nice.
there is always such good ideas on your website. Maybe i’ll try this one! thank you!
Great Post, very useful information.
thanks for sharing all the tips !
Learned a lot from the site, well organized information.
this is a great post. knowing how to choose the product and then analyze their market and potential through your steps is the right answer.
